Hollinshead and Kirkham (H & K) Tunstall «Viola» Square Saucer Dish
Vintage Art Deco Hand Painted Hollinshead & Kirkham Tunstall «Viola» Saucer Dish.
“Hollinshead and Kirkham, otherwise known as H & K Tunstall (1870–1956) were originally from Burslem in Staffordshire, UK (1870–1876) and moved their pottery works to nearby Tunstall in 1876. In 1890 they took over the Unicorn Works pottery.”
A square shape dish has been glazed and boldly painted in the “Viola” pattern of delicate violet flowers on a cobalt blue and earthy brown background.
Made in England during 1930s. Designed by R. Grocott (circa 1935).
Marks:
- It is marked on the base with the ‘Viola, Made in England, H & K Tunstall’ mark. This printed mark was in use between 1933 and 1942 (?).
- Number 633 (?).
Condition: good condition, two chips on corners (see photos).
